Baris Atay was born in Germany in 1981 as Baris Atay Mengulluoglu. His family moved to Turkey soon after and he grew up in Antakya, Turkey.
He received his university education in Adana (1999) and studied Biology at Cukurova University. During his last year there, he left for Istanbul, to attend the Theatre Department at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Yeditepe University (2004). He later attended the graduate program at the Cinema & Television Department at Kadir Has University in Istanbul (2011).
He is an actor and director, known for Damat Kogusu (2017), Eksik (2015), Kopek (2015) and Arka Siradakiler (2007-2012).
He played the lead in the well received musical "Anadolu’nun Yüzleri”, which was staged in Germany, Austria and Australia.
His one-man play "Sadece Diktator" got banned in Turkey in January 2018, but was staged in Theater 28 in Berlin and later in Vienna.
